What powertrain options are available with the 2020 Cherokee?

With the 2020 Cherokee, you get a choice between three different engines that work with the other systems within the powertrain to offer great performance and capability. Coming standard with the first few trim models is a 2.4-liter Tigershark inline-4 engine that can produce up to 180 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque potential. This engine, as well as the other engine options, are paired with Jeep's nine-speed automatic transmission with a choice between 4x2 or all-wheel-drive configurations. If you are looking for some additional power, starting with the Limited 4x4 trim model, Jeep brings in a 3.2-liter Pentastar V6 engine that can push out 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque. This V6 engine is also offered optional with each of the earlier trim levels. One of Jeep's most impressive engines is also brought in to the roster, coming optional with most trim models is the 2.0-liter GMET4 I-4 turbo engine that matches the V6 engine in power with 270 horsepower and an enhanced 295 lb-ft of torque potential. Each of these engines works well with the engineered powertrain systems that effectively distribute power throughout the entire SUV; when properly equipped, the Cherokee can also act as a towing transport, with a max tow capacity of up to 4,500 lbs.

How are each of the trim models equipped with features?

The first trim model offered with the Cherokee is the Latitude trim bringing in key features such as tilt/telescoping steering wheel, variable/intermittent front windshield wipers, 17-inch wheels with all-season tires, roof rails and split-folding rear seats for additional storage capability, automatic LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, power-adjustable side mirrors, and more. Jeep brings back their Uconnect system, which is housed in an easy to operate 7-inch touchscreen display with USB ports, smartphone integration, and a six-speaker sound system. The Latitude Plus is the second trim model offered with the Cherokee, adding in additional features including fog lamps for extra visibility, premium cloth trimmed bucket seats, power-adjustable front seats with a lumbar adjuster, a premium wrapped steering wheel, additional USB ports, and SiriusXM radio. The Limited trim continues to work in even more features, bringing in heated leather-wrapped seats and steering wheel, premium Nappa leather interior upholstery, larger 18-inch wheels, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and dual-zone automatic temperature control. If you are looking to take the Cherokee on off-road adventures, Jeep brings in the Trailhawk trim that enhances the various systems of the Cherokee for enhanced off-road capability. Some of the key features with the Trailhawk trim include a raised off-road-tuned suspension, all-terrain tires, Jeep's advanced Selec-Terrain system paired with a locking rear differential, and more. The Overland trim model is the highest level trim offered with the Cherokee, that takes the Limited trim feature kit and adds on even more with features including larger 19-inch wheels, heated and ventilated seats with a premium leather cover, a convenient hands-free power liftgate, and exterior styling elements unique to the trim.

What are some of the key safety features brought in?

Jeep works in electronic stability control support with the Cherokee that enhances the traction of the SUV with electronic roll mitigation, all-speed traction control support, and brake assist with four-channel antilock brakes. The advanced airbag system is compact and well spread throughout the interior cabin, with multistage front, front-seat side, knee bolster, and side curtain airbags. Some of the other key safety features we see offered include hill-start assist, lane departure warning with blind-spot monitoring, a rearview camera worked into the infotainment system, rear cross path detection, trailer-sway control, and more.
