Classic Chrysler Diablo Convertible Draws in Hefty Bid at Barrett-Jackson Auction

Here at Steve Jones Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep, we always enjoy seeing how much auto enthusiasts support and value the classic models. After all, this is where Chrysler draws all of its inspiration from when creating its new Chrysler lineup. At the recent 2013 Barrett-Jackson auction, another tribute was paid to one of the classics and we are bringing all of you in the greater Owensboro area the latest details right here on our Steve Jones blog.

The model in the spotlight this time around is the 1956 Chrysler Diablo Concept. It was made into a legendary Chrysler design by Virgil Exner Sr. back in 1953. After collaborating with Ghia, a renowned Italian automobile designer, the two produced this sleek, classic model.

Looking closer at the details, the Diablo Concept was built from the chassis of a 1956 Chrysler 300 and includes a 392-cubic-inch V8 engine with  dual four-barrel carbs. Other features include power steering, power brakes, power windows, a power top and air conditioning. It sits at about 21 feet long, and sports a mix of both Italian and American design influence.

After a heated auction where numerous bidders fought to come away with the prize, the top bidder with $1,375,000 was given the keys to this iconic model. For a model that carries with it so much rich Chrysler history, we were not too surprised that it was valued at such a high price.
